Please let me know if you make any progress on this. I am no closer to a solution, but I did find one other person reporting the same issue. Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it? This problem is happening for multiple users at multiple sites (although I have not been able to reproduce it on my own computer). But sometimes the buttons disappear the very first time the user closes and reopens Word. The length of time that passes before the buttons disappear varies, but is usually a couple days - enough time for the user to close and reopen Word several times, and to reboot the computer a time or two.
